| 616 Abortions are a UK based band. Describing their music as 'bleak, vicious and heartbroken, they make uncompromising and emotive music. Fronted by transgender vocalist & songwriter Miss j616, they also include Dominic on guitar, Gemma on bass and Jared on synths. Their name comes from a footnote Miss j616 saw while reading The Book of Revelations, which mentioned that some early biblical scrolls had the number 616 for the number of The Beast, as opposed to the more commonly known 666. This fascinated the singer, and used the number to symbolize the idea that what we commonly hold dear as certain well know facts and truths, 'may just turn out to be wrong, and to be wary of assuming that what you believe to be right, IS right. Basically, to have an open and healthily sceptical mind. The other part of the band's name, they purposefully don't talk about. But the name reflects the deep well of emotion and feeling behind what they sing about. With song titles like 'Endgame', 'Natural Unnatural', 'Gorgeous Day for Suicide', and the very long titled 'I'd Rather Be Beaten By You Than Be Anything Like You', they put on an intense and powerful performance live performance. They also play a menacing cover of 80's classic 'Enola Gay', about the infamous event of the use of the first atomic weapon. Songs for a bleak, vicious and heartbroken world. |
